Evercore Heroes It is postulated as a firm candidate to be one of the surprises of the year at the multiplayer level. The solo debut of Vela Games, a studio formed by former employees of Riot Games, comes with a clear premise: to offer “League of Legends and World of Warcraft together.” The phrase can be overly ambitious, but once you understand its mechanics you realize the potential that the formula has.
From a distance it looks like another MOBA, the top-down multiplayer cut from the same patterns as the rest they tried. stand up to Riot’s success. However, Evercore Heroes is the complete opposite. The team intends to offer an innovative experience far from the structure that we all know of the genre. In FreeGameTips we have already been able to play the first games.
How do you play Evercore Heroes?
One thing must be kept in mind from the outset. Evercore Heroes is not about another PvP-based experience, that is, engaging in direct combat against other human players. What we find is a reinterpretation of the MOBA in a luck of time trial where we fight against the rest of the teams indirectly in a PvE experience.
The four teams that make up each game are made up of four players who must choose between playing the role of DPS (pure damage), Tank and Support. Once the game starts we will have a few minutes to get experience by completing jungles, that is, killing groups of enemies in specific places that report experience and gold at the moment. After a few minutes the goal will be specific: to be the first team to defeat one of the bosses on the stage.
That duel against the boss exposes the coordination that the team must have, and it is that by saving the distances it mechanically reminds the great enemies of the incursions of an MMO. Light mechanics are proposed that add variety to the games. For example, in one of the bosses the tank must be placed in the center to attract some lasers that will deal damage. The Support player on the team should heal him while the DPS removes threats around him.
The first team will obtain the maximum Luum, a statistic that confers small advantages towards the end of each round, and that is that after the boss you must protect the crystal of your base from hordes of enemies. The team that cannot contain this stake will be eliminated from the game. The remaining three will play the same content loop again until only two teams remain, at which point the final duel begins.
The final section (endgame) varies depending on the map you play on. A dimensional portal opens that takes us to a special area. In our case we always reach the final with the same playable test. It was a spiral in which by killing a special enemy you could send it to the opponent’s area. Although it seems that everything is under control, in a matter of a few minutes you will lose control and it will become a show of strength between the two teams. Whoever survives gets the win.
Easy to play hard to master
A game of Evercore Heroes spins around the 25-minute bracket, depending on how long that final section takes. in our experience sometimes we have exceeded half an hour. We like it better when the action goes straight to the foot, without complications. When it lengthens you notice a little the fatigue of the playable loop.
We like Evercore Heroes and what it proposes. We have familiar elements that get us hooked from minute one, like the four basic skills you develop as you level up and the perk upgrade shop. At first it’s a bit confusing because of the chip change it needs compared to everything you’ve played in the genre, but at the same time You only need three games to be fully immersed in the experience.
The problem, or rather the peculiarity of the formula, is that you don’t really measure your ability against the rest of the players. It is a multiplayer in which your ability intervenes above all in how you coordinate with your teammates when it comes to overcoming the obstacles of artificial intelligence, but nothing more. Those who like to measure themselves against other players may feel in the long term that they do not receive the doses that the big names in the genre do.
That said, the title has enough identity to be able to hook another, more frantic audience.familiar with PvE all my life. Its managers alluded to this fact during the digital presentation to which we attended. The conclusions are not the same for a player familiar with the MOBA compared to another in which shooters are their main genre.
Road to launch and beta on the way
ANDvercore Heroes is aiming for a free to play release on PC later this year. You will have 16 starting heroes around 3 game zones that vary in difficulty. Until then, the team is preparing a beta on PC for all those who purchase the founder’s pack, which will go on sale starting on May 9. Those who purchase it will receive beta keys to distribute among their friends, as well as other digital bonuses with cosmetics and a battle pass that does not expire.
This private beta currently has as start date next June 20, so you won’t have to wait a long time to play it. What is clear to us after playing it is that you must try it to be able to feel its full potential. Even if it looks unattractive from the outside, it convinces from short distances.
